journal: carnival

This week in class we are looking into carnival. This is a celebration that takes place between Christmas and ash Wednesday. During this festival everyone is out on the street dancing and playing music. the whole town is basically shut down during is full month event. The festival brings cultures together, it doesn't matter what race, gender or class you are everyone enjoys it. In the reading they describe people dressing up as playing mas. The outfit that are put on by people are traditional or modern. The festival that is presented today are less violent then they were in the olden days. A way that the city creates less violent area is by have steel orchestra and contest to see who is the best.while we were discussing this in class it brought a movie to mind , Rio. Though the movie is about two blue birds, near the end of the movie , they show a parade which is part of carnival in Rio de Janeiro. In the parade of the movie people are dressed just like how the people of Trinidad were dressed.
